Why Some Games Feel Great on a Touchscreen and Others Don't

Why Some Games Feel Great on a Touchscreen and Others Don't

April 6, 2026 · Lena Hartmann

Your phone has no buttons, and pretending it does is the quickest way to ruin a game. The best mobile titles design their controls around the thumb, not around a console controller that isn't there.

Take Neon Drift Circuit. It boils driving down to tap and hold, and suddenly a racing game that would be miserable with virtual buttons feels natural. Coin Strike does the same with its drag-and-release flick. Simple input, deep outcomes.

The red flags are easy to spot once you know them: tiny on-screen buttons, actions that need two thumbs plus a third you don't have, menus that assume a mouse. When a game fights your hand, no amount of content saves it.

If you're a developer reading this, test your game while walking with one hand. If it falls apart, so will your reviews.
